Hi, I’m Dr. Ashley Sweet.

My Journey to Sexology
Ever since I was an adolescent, I’ve been fascinated by sex, sexuality, and everything society labels as "taboo." Long before I had the clinical credentials, my high school friends nicknamed me the resident "sexpert"-the go-to person for raw, honest answers about contraception and getting it on.
At the same time, I grew up navigating the weight of my own body image. Being a "fat kid" in the 90s—long before body positivity existed—taught me what it felt like to be ridiculed for simply existing in my skin. That experience led me to lean into my intellect and alternative beauty standards. In undergrad, I stepped into feminist philosophy and sociology, learning to dismantle my own internalized patriarchy and make sense of this wild world as a white, college-educated, bisexual/queer woman.
At first, I was furious. Why does society teach us to feel ashamed of our bodies and our desires? But over time, I turned that anger into action.
Fierce Advocacy & Clinical Foundations
My dedication to sexual liberation and bodily autonomy was forged over nearly two decades on the frontlines of reproductive and relational health:
14 Years at Planned Parenthood: Serving as a clinic worker, abortion counselor, and research director, I held thousands of hands during abortion procedures. Supporting people through deeply stigmatized moments shaped the fiercely compassionate, non-judgmental advocate I am today.
Founder of Pro-Choice Therapists: As my doctoral project, I founded prochoicetherapists.org—an international organization and the first member directory of its kind dedicated to providing abortion-affirming mental health care and clinical education.
Trauma & Abuse Recovery: During my Master’s training, I worked at a community rape crisis center with clients ranging from age 2 to 70, witnessing the deep, rippling effects of trauma, poverty, and abuse.
Realizing that true healing requires moving from survival into embodied joy, I earned my PhD in Clinical Sexology from the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes and stepped into full-time sex therapy practice.
How We Work Together
My clinical style is warm, deeply curious, kindly direct, and frequently full of laughter. I don't sit back as a cold observer—I cackle with my clients, challenge unhelpful scripts, and create a grounded, authentic space where you can be fully seen.
In addition to traditional sex therapy, I specialize in religious trauma, sexual abuse recovery, Gottman Method couples therapy, and clinical hypnotherapy. Whether we are using structured relational tools, somatic deep-dives, or hypnotherapy to rewire subconscious shame, my goal is to meet you where you are.
I believe pleasure is your birthright. In a culture that conditions us toward guilt, becoming sexually confident, grounded, and embodied is radical AF. Together, we deconstruct internalized shame, dismantle systemic conditioning, and help you unlock the liberation of authentic erotic desire.
Beyond the Therapy Room
In another life, I’d probably be a parapsychologist. I have a lifelong fascination with consciousness studies, life-after-death research, and existential rabbit holes. It probably started with watching Unsolved Mysteries way too young…
When I’m not in session, you can usually find me sipping a great cup of coffee, listening to Khruangbin, roaming forest trails, reading Mary Oliver, and spending quality time with my daughter, my partner, and our two dogs and a cat.
